Players from India and Pakistan can be seen playing for one team next year. O Asian Cricket Council (ACC) wants to restart Afro-Asia and plans to organize it in 2023. If all goes well, in addition to India and Pakistan, players from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be seen playing for the Asian XI.
The first season took place in 2005
The Afro-Asia Cup has only been organized twice in the history of cricket. A three-match ODI series was played in 2005, while in the tournament held in 2007, in addition to three ODIs, a T20 was also played. Where the first season ended in a 1-1 draw. In the same second season, Asian XI won all four matches.
ACC is doing a thorough preparation…
ACC’s head of commercials and events, Prabhakaran Thanraj, told Forbes: “We still haven’t received confirmation from the cricket boards. We are still working on the white paper, which will be submitted to both councils. But we plan to have an Asian XI.” We have to bring together the best players from India and Pakistan. After the plan is finalized, we will move into the advertising and broadcasting market.
Damodar, part of the Chief Executive Committee, said: ‘I would love to fill that gap and see players play together. I’m sure the players want that to happen too. Keep politics out of it. It would be lovely to see players from Pakistan and India on the same team.
India-PAK will face each other in the T20 World Cup.
Due to poor diplomatic relations, the bilateral series between India and Pakistan is not yet organized. The last time the two countries had a bilateral series was in 2012-13, when Pakistan visited India for three ODIs and two T20Is. While Pakistan’s team won the ODI series 2-1, the T20 series was tied at 1-1. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, India and Pakistan will face each other again.
