On September 14, 2018, James Allan made a discovery and informed first responders about it over the phone. In the basement of his home in Tecumseh, Michigan, the former resident claimed to have found his wife, Amy Allan, hanging from the ceiling.
After autopsy reports showed that Amy died as a result of an incident with her husband James Allan when the latter tried to suffocate her, what at first appeared to be suicide was later confirmed to be homicide.
Amy was believed to be dead when emergency personnel arrived at the scene until they discovered a weak pulse. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but to no avail. According to reports, she died there as a result of her injuries. James Allan was charged with the murder after being implicated in multiple testimonies, autopsy records, and crime scene evidence. He was later found guilty of second-degree murder by the jury.

James Allan, Spouse of Amy Allan, where is he currently?
When James Allan was brought before the court, he pleaded not guilty to all charges. He maintained his innocence in the murder of his wife Amy Allan. The prosecution’s case is that after the defendant allegedly suffocated Amy with his bare hands in a meeting. He masterminded the elaborate suicide scheme to deceive the police. He eventually became entangled in his own web of falsehoods, however.
After hearing from several witnesses and reviewing the autopsy results, the jury finally determined that James was guilty of second-degree murder. He received a 45-year prison sentence nearly three years later, in 2021. There was a requirement that he serve at least 20 years in prison before being eligible for parole. James will therefore be eligible for an early release in 2040 while he is still incarcerated at St. Louis Correctional Facility in Saint Louis, Michigan.
Why was James Allan found guilty during his wife Amy Allan’s murder trial?
After making a panicked call, James Allan’s calm and unusual demeanor as emergency personnel arrived at the scene originally aroused suspicion. When authorities arrived at the scene, he was already administering CPR and trying to revive Amy Allan.
The fact that the electrical line around Amy’s neck was not tight enough to render her unconscious was revealed in the autopsy findings. Suspicion increased. When detectives began accusing his wife, he was eventually arrested in Ocala, Florida.

James was the one who first proposed the suicide scenario and maintained it throughout the trial. He reportedly also claimed that his wife had a history of alcohol abuse, which often led to bipolar behavior. Their marriage, which on the surface looked perfect, turned out to be less than ideal, as further investigation and trial revealed. In court, the prosecution claimed that James Allan suffocated Amy until she was rendered unconscious following an incident with her. They also argued that James was an oppressive and violent husband.
The jury found James Allan guilty of second-degree murder in his wife’s murder case. After a two-week trial that included multiple testimonies from trial participants who were directly and indirectly involved. The defendant maintained his innocence to the end. But he still received a sentence of more than 40 years in prison, with the possibility of parole in later years.
The Last Day, a Dateline series that is currently available to stream on Peacock, tells the moving story of the tragic murder of Amy Allan.
