According to Hindu mythology, there was once a religious king whose name was Kuber who daily worshiped God. He was a great scholar of the god Shiva and offered daily prayers with the help of his servant (Hem). Hem daily delivers the pious flowers to Kuber. One day Hem will not offer flowers to King Kuber, and that will be an obstacle to the king’s prayer. In anger Kuber cursed Hem that he will change into half female and half male body.
Because of the curse Hem came to earth and suffered many problems. One day he went to Markandeya Rishi about it. And here Rishi told him about the Yogini Ekadashi fast. And Hem did as well as Rishi said. And finally he got to heaven once more.
