KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 8.6 million recipients of Family Assistance Malaysia (BKM) have been approved with families to receive up to RM2,500 this year, said Prime Minister Dato ‘Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

According to him, the assistance is the largest so far given by any government.

He said the BKM Phase 2 payment involved an allocation of RM 1.11 billion and each recipient would receive up to RM 500 according to their respective BKM qualification categories.

He said that in light of cost of living challenges and the recent rise in food prices, the government decided to provide additional cash assistance to the B40 group of RM 100 for families and RM 50 for singles.

“This additional cash assistance payment is paid in Phase 2 of the BKM, involving an additional allocation of RM630 million,” he said in a post on his Facebook page this afternoon.

Previously, he said that the government allocated BKM payments to young singles only in Phase 1 and Phase 3.

However, he said that this time, in Phase 2 of the BKM, the government gave special incentives to singles by providing additional cash assistance.

He added that each eligible recipient will receive the payment in stages from 27 June, involving a total allocation of RM 1.74 billion.

According to him, the payment also serves to alleviate the financial burden of the B40 group, notably in commemoration of Hari Raya Aidiladha soon and will be channeled as scheduled.

“The government is always attentive to current needs, particularly involving the increase in the price of essential goods, and will remain committed to ensuring the well-being of Malaysian families, especially the target group,” he said. – HARAKAHDAILY 6/22/2022
