delonte west says there’s nothing to worry about after the video of him begging on the streets went viral last week… insisting he’s fine and is actively looking for a job.
To remember, we broke the news back in February that the former NBA guard – who has publicly battled mental health issues and addictions – was back on track, training to make the Big 3.
But just last week, a fan shared a video on social media showing a disheveled West begging on the streets of Virginia… and it caught many off guard.
So when Image Direct caught up with the 38-year-old this week, they asked Delonte if he was okay and why he was on the streets begging for money.
“It is what it is,” West said.
“I have children. I’m between jobs. People can help me as much as they can, but you know, as a man, I have to do what I have to do for my babies.”
As for the Big 3, West says there were so many talented players there that he understands why he wasn’t selected…but he’s grateful for the chance.
“I was excited about the opportunity,” West said, “I will be there next season. I’ll be there rooting for the guys.”
Despite several difficult breaks, the 8-year NBA veteran is apparently not letting some tough times discourage him… saying he will continue to work hard and look forward to being part of an NBA coaching staff soon.
“I’m always involved in the game I love. Last year, I was a scout for the Dallas Mavericks, and for the previous three years, I was an NBA scout for the Boston Celtics.”

West added: “I was actually looking forward to being head coach or assistant coach in the NBA this season, but like I said, it’s a business that has a lot of people involved and wants to stay involved.”
“Fortunately, fortunately, I will be in discussion this coming season.”
We’re rooting for you, Delonte!
