Covid Forces Andre De Grasse To Withdraw From Bc Track And Field Championships

Sprint star Andre De Grasse will miss the Canadian athletics championships this week in Fraser Valley after testing positive for COVID-19.

The event is scheduled to begin on Wednesday in Langley County, with some events also being held at Mission at Raceway Park.

Fans will be disappointed not to see De Grasse, as the 26-year-old has six times olympic medalist was in shape, winning the 100 meters at last week’s Oslo Diamond League meeting with the best 10.05 seconds of the season.

De Grasse is among several high-profile athletes who have withdrawn from the Bell Canadian Track & Field championship, including Olympic decathlon champion Damian Warner, distance runners Moh Ahmed, Justyn Knight and Gabriela DeBues-Stafford.

Paralympic star Brent Lakatos is also among the last scratches from the encounter.

The event ends on Sunday and will be held at McLeod Athletic Park at 21405 56 Ave.

The World Championships in Athletics take place July 15-24 in Eugene, Ore.
