People for Successful COrean (or Korean) REunification (PSCORE) is a non-profit, non-religious, non-partisan NGO based in Seoul & Washington, DC. Working on North Korea Human Rights issues, PSCORE is hosting a fundraiser event for North Korean defectors on December 17th as follows.

Help the community by volunteering with us!

The Seoul Global Center has been encouraging expatriates living in Seoul to participate in various volunteer activities within the community, and we are inviting foreign volunteers to a meaningful volunteer program this time around.

The volunteers will visit the Seoul Dongbu Senior Care Center which is located in Hongik-dong, Seongdong-gu. The program involves with the cleaning of the facilities as well as the help with the care for the seniors, by providing food services and keeping them company. A Mongolian traditional music performance team will join hands together in this meaningful event. This will be a great opportunity to interact with others who share your passion and lend a helping hand in our community.

2011 Seoul Town Meeting

Survey on Discussion Topics

  

The Seoul Global Center has been hosting annual Seoul Town Meetings to provide a great opportunity for international residents in Seoul to voice their opinions and make suggestions for improving of the city.  For this year’s Seoul Town Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in December, around 100 expats will be invited with the new Mayor and city officials in attendance.

“Cultural Interpreter” Isabelle Min is a cross culture specialist and professor of Consumption Culture at SungKyunKwan University. Through the six lectures Isabelle will share her perspectives on the way Korean culture is displayed in areas such as  shopping, dining, riding transportation, socializing and working.

2011 Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival

Marking its 11th anniversary this year, Songpa-gu in Seoul has been hosting the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival since 1994 with an aim to promote the glorious history of Hanseong Baekje.

As a representative event of Songpa-gu, the festival was recognized as the Culture and Tourism Festival by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2008.

This year’s festival will feature a wide range of events including Dongmyeongje (a ritual ceremony for the tomb of King Dongmyeong), folklore performances, a street parade, and Baekje theme zone. In addition, you will be able to experience various hands-on programs such as trying out traditional costumes, military training, excavating relics, and making pottery.

2011 Career Fair for Overseas Students

2011 Career Fair for Overseas Students will be held for international students who are seeking  employment in Korea on Oct. 6 – 7 at Coex in Gangnam. More than 40 Korean companines will take part in the event, including Samsung Engineering, Hyosung, Daewoong, SK C&C, POSCO E&C, Hanwha Finance Network, Lotte, Daelim, and LS Industrial Systems.

TBS (Traffic Broadcasting System) is inviting you to its annual “Happy Concert”, which will take place on October 1st (Sat.) at Sangam World Cup Stadium.

This year’s concert features poplar K-pop idol groups including Girls’ Generation, F(x), and U-Kiss as well as Korean traditional music performed by the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Music Orchestra.

The concert is free of charge, and you can get tickets by filling out the form on the TBS’s website.

The 2nd Expats Day festival is taking place on September 24th (Sat.) at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The Expats Day event , sponsored by FC Seoul, 10 Magazine and the Seoul Global Center, consists of two parts: a main program and a pre-game event.

The main program is a soccer match between FC Seoul and the Daejeon Citizens at 5 pm , but the festival will begin at 2pm with the pre-game event, featuring b-boy performances, concerts and a variety of game booths at the venue.

For only 10,000won, you can get admission to the soccer game along with free beer and a hot dog. Kimchi Fermentation Science Cafe

As one of the main programs of the 18th World Kimchi Culture Festival this year, the ‘Kimchi Fermentation Science Cafe’ event will take place on September 15th (Thur) in Insa-dong. The event will feature a wide range of fun activities including Kimchi Characters Street Parade, a percussion performance, and the kimchi art stage from 11 to 5 pm. As a major program of the event, particpants can learn about  the special recipe from the kimchi master, try making kimchi on their own and bring it home with you.
