The Seoul Global Center has been encouraging expatriates living in Seoul to participate in various volunteer activities within the community, and we are inviting foreign volunteers to a meaningful volunteer program this time around.

The volunteers will visit the Seoul Dongbu Senior Care Center which is located in Hongik-dong, Seongdong-gu. The program involves with the cleaning of the facilities as well as the help with the care for the seniors, by providing food services and keeping them company. A Mongolian traditional music performance team will join hands together in this meaningful event. This will be a great opportunity to interact with others who share your passion and lend a helping hand in our community.

2011 Seoul Town Meeting

Survey on Discussion Topics

The Seoul Global Center has been hosting annual Seoul Town Meetings to provide a great opportunity for international residents in Seoul to voice their opinions and make suggestions for improving of the city.  For this year’s Seoul Town Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in December, around 100 expats will be invited with the new Mayor and city officials in attendance.

The 2^nd Expats Day festival is taking place on September 24^th (Sat.) at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The Expats Day event , sponsored by FC Seoul, 10 Magazine and the Seoul Global Center, consists of two parts: a main program and a pre-game event.

The main program is a soccer match between FC Seoul and the Daejeon Citizens at 5 pm , but the festival will begin at 2pm with the pre-game event, featuring b-boy performances, concerts and a variety of game booths at the venue.

For only 10,000won, you can get admission to the soccer game along with free beer and a hot dog. The Seoul Global Center is hosting its third term of Business Start-up School for future entrepreneurs. Seoul Global Center’s 6th Foreigners’ Flea Market

Are your shelves groaning under the weight of books you haven’t touched in ages? Looking to clear a little space for new additions? Come and share your love of a good story with fellow expats and Seoul residents at the Seoul Global Center’s 6th Foreigners’ Flea Market of 2011. This month’s market is for the sale of secondhand books only. Vendors must be foreign nationals or part of a team including foreign nationals. The vendor registration should be completed in advance and there is no fee to participate. Any customers are welcome to visit without registration.

The Beautiful Flea Market is a flea market that encourages people to buy and use more second-hand goods and to increase the value of recycling. Some of the proceeds will go to charity for our neighbors in need. Please follow our general rules for vendors to make your experience more enjoyable. 

▷The number of items for sale is limited 40 secondhand books (less than 5 copies of the same book)
▷For more people to participate, only one booth will be given to each team.
▷Please donate at least 10% of your proceeds.

The Seoul Global Center presents the Foreigners’ Flea Market to help expand exchange between foreign residents and Seoul citizens and encourage the recycling of used goods. Korean Language Course at the Seoul Global Center

The Seoul Global Center (SGC) will open its 3^rd term of free Korean classes as follows:

1.  Course Outline

ㅇ Course duration: Monday September 5^th ~ Friday December 2^nd, 2011 (12 weeks) 

ㅇ Classroom: Conference room in SGC

ㅇ Fees: Free of charge (The textbook should be purchased by students)

2.  How to Apply

ㅇ Application period: Monday July 11^th ~ Tuesday July 12^th, 2011
   ※Please be advised that we accept registration only during the application period. 

ㅇ Application procedure: Actual applicants must visit SGC in person and fill out the form

                    Online or proxy application is not acceptable.

ㅇ Necessary documents : Alien Registration Card, a copy of the applicant’s color photo (size: 3*4cm)

                ►  Admission will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

►  Admittants will be notified via e-mail individually.
ㅇ Placement test: Monday July 18^th, Tuesday July 19^th

※    According to the test results, applicants could be assigned to a different class from their application.

※  The final confirmation of admission will be notified to the applicants via e-mail by August 30^th

3.  Class size: between 12 and 15 students
If classes are all full before the application period is over, the applicants can be put on a waiting list if they would like. If there are drop-outs within the first two weeks, these spots will be filled with people from the waiting list in the order they signed up.

2011 Seoul Global Center’s Global Concert

A lunch time concert series, Global Concert, hosted by the Seoul Global Center, kicked off again. Performances will take place in Mugyo-dong Global Street Plaza every Tuesday/Thursday from 12:20-12:50 from April to October this year  to allow people who are out for their lunch hour to enjoy the sounds, songs, and dance of other cultures.
