Traditional Socks Making Class

For a cultural event in November, the Yeoksam Global Village Center is inviting you to a cultural program of making Beoseon (Korean traditional socks) using the techniques of Korea’s traditional ‘gyu-bang gong-ye’, or boudoir crafts.
In the western culture, a Christmas stocking is an empty sock or sock-shaped bag children hang on Christmas Eve so that Santa Claus can fill it with small gifts such as small toys or candy. As Christmas season is coming we suggest that you make your own Korean traditional socks instead of western Christmas stockings this year.

Beoseon is a type of socks worn with hanbok, or Korean traditional clothing, to protect your feet or to keep them warm. Come and join us in making a meaningful gift for yourself, friends or any of your family members. If you would like to participate in this activity, please send an email to yeoksam@sba.seoul.kr with your name, nationality and phone number.

Organic Home Gardening Class

Recently, home gardening has become more and more popular among Korean people as it is getting harder to find vegetables grown without the use of pesticides and organic vegetables are quite expensive. Once you learn how to plant vegetables using compost in boxes which can be kept even on a small balcony, it is really easy to grow them. Then you can eat fresh organic vegetables with your family every day.

This month the Itaewon Global Village Center will offer an Organic Home Gardening Class and anyone who is interested in learning how to do this is welcome to join. We will plant three kinds of vegetable seedlings and one kind of seed in a 30cm x 30cm box that you can take home with you. This class is also an educational opportunity for children to learn about what is needed to grow vegetables and how to water them so that they’ll grow.

The instructor will also show how to make salads and sandwiches with the vegetables that we plant. Then these will also be shared as a snack at the end of the activity.

◈ Place: Seoul Forest near to Ttukseom subway station.

CPR and First Aid Training Session

On Friday July 29th at 10am we will be hosting a CPR and First Aid Training Session for foreigners. The class will be conducted in English by trainers from the 1339 Emergency Medical Information Center. This is a unique opportunity as there aren’t a lot of these kinds of training classes offered in English in Korea.

This session is open to any foreign residents and children 12 years of age and older are also welcome to attend. It is especially important for families to learn first aid and it’s a good idea for teens to learn about this as soon as possible.

The session is free of charge but spots are limited. Please be aware that there is no CPR certification awarded upon completion of this class.
