Special Evening Party

French Wine & Korean Dishes

Do you like French wine? Or are you interested in Korean Royal cuisine?

The Seorae Global Village Center is inviting you to a special party which will take place on January 6th, 2012. At the event, you will be able to learn about how to pair French wines with Korean dishes, especially Korean Royal cuisine. After the presentations, participants can taste the French wine and Korean cuisine prepared by experts.

Kimchi Fermentation Science Cafe

As one of the main programs of the 18th World Kimchi Culture Festival this year, the ‘Kimchi Fermentation Science Cafe’ event will take place on September 15th (Thur) in Insa-dong. The event will feature a wide range of fun activities including Kimchi Characters Street Parade, a percussion performance, and the kimchi art stage from 11 to 5 pm. As a major program of the event, particpants can learn about  the special recipe from the kimchi master, try making kimchi on their own and bring it home with you. Making Galbi Jjim (braised short ribs)

& Samsaek Namul (three colored vegetables)

 

The Yeoksam Global Village Center will host a Korean cooking class on Friday, April 22nd.

Galbi Jjim is short ribs braised in sweet soy sauce-based sauce. This is one of the famous Korean foods, which is favored by both foreigners and Koreans.

Galbi is a dish that is made with marinated beef (or pork) short ribs in a ganjang-based sauce (Korean soy sauce).

Samsaek namul, or tri-colored vegetables is traditionally eaten at festive seasons or ancestral rites. The dish usually consists of white, brown and green vegetables in season.

The Yeoksam Global Village Center will host a Korean cooking class on Wednesday, January 19th.

Tteokguk is a Korean dish which is traditionally eaten during Korean New Year. The dish consists of a broth (guk) and thinly sliced rice cakes (tteok). It is a tradition to eat tteokguk on New Year’s Day because it is believed to grant good luck for the forthcoming year and gain an additional year of life.

Pajeon is one kind of jeon (Korean pancake) with green onions as its prominent ingredient. It is a pancake-like Korean dish made from a batter of eggs, flour, rice flour, green onions and seafood.

The Itaewon-Hannam Global Village Center will be going to the Rinnai Cooking School near Hong-ik University for a Mom and Kids Cooking Class. Kids and their parents will work together to make a cake house (similar to a gingerbread house). The class is for children from kindergarten to grade 6 and both foreign and Korean children are welcome to join.

Hands-on Program For Native speaker Teachers

“Experiencing Royal Culture”

The National Palace Museum of Korea’s Education program called ‘Experiencing Royal culture’ is designed to help native speaker teachers learn about Joseon Royal culture along with Koreans.

The program will offer you a range of hands-on activities through five session lectures including a field trip.

Date and hour / Total of five sessions

   – session 1, 3~5 : 18:00~20:00, the 1st~4th Tuesday of June, October, November, December.

   – session   2  : 14:00~16:00, the 2th Saturday of June, October, November, December.

Place : Lecture Room of National Palace Museum and Changdeokgung

             (Lecture Room is located on B1 of the National Palace museum)

Class size : 20 People (10 native speaker teachers and 10 Koreans)

Qualifications

    Foreigners : native English teachers of elementary, middle and high school

    Koreans     : adults who are fluent in English and interested in Joseon Royal culture

Fee Free of charge

※ Lectures are delivered in English
